New Principal Appointed to St. Ann's Bay High and Preparatory School
Mrs. Paulette Ambursley is the newly appointed principal for the St. Ann's Bay High and Preparatory School. This was announced by Pastor Wenford Henry, Secretary of North Jamaica Mission, at Workers' meeting held on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at the Mission's headquarters.
In her speech, Mrs. Ambursley said, "I must thank God for calling me to this noble position. I will not ask 'why me, Lord'? But instead, I will say, 'Use me Lord'. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
"I am cognizant of the fact that this is a sacred position and a monstrous task. It's not about 'status'; it is about responsibility, hardwork, challenges, issues, success, and executing duty". ... "I have a dedicated team of workers who will do no less than they did in the previous administration. We will unite our efforts, put our 'shoulders to the wheel' and move St. Ann's Bay High and Preparatory to a higher level", she continued.
She noted that this school year has an enrolment of 552 students, with 147 new students in the preparatory school and 53 new students in the high school.
Mrs. Ambursley also thanked Mrs. Orchid Smith, the previous principal of four years, for her hardwork and dedicated service to the school and promises to build on what she has left.
Pastor Michael Harvey, President of North Jamaica Mission, congratulated Mrs. Ambursley on her appointment and noted his continued support to her and all the workers at the St. Ann's Bay High and Preparatory School. He also informed the principal that it would be good to implement a courtesy week
at the school so that students can recognize the principles of courtesy which are important to their growth and development.
Paulette hails from a community called Warwick in the parish of Manchester. She attended the Harmons All-Age School, Villa Road All-Age School and then Caledonia High School.
Her thirteen years of service to the St. Ann's Bay High and Preparatory School began when she entered its doors in 1995, while Mr. Linval Farquharson was the principal. She has taught the grades two, three, four and six classes.
Her accomplishment as the teacher for the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) programme has brought her much commendations as she has been applauded for her high standard of work and continuous success of her students at this level. This year's results showed students passing for high schools such as Wolmers, Knox, York Castle, St. Hilda's, Westwood, Ocho Rios, St. Mary's High, Ferncourt, and Iona High.
Mrs. Ambursley currently serves the Ocho Rios Seventh-day Adventist Church as the first elder and is also known to be an evangelist who has conducted campaigns in various parts of the island.
